I have now taken 5 or 6 Awareness Through Movement classes with Mara. She always emphasizes moving slowly and carefully, not pushing or causing any pain. The motions she has us do are helping me to build an awareness of how the body can move with ease. (And I always feel taller and more relaxed at the end of class.)
Mara’s spirit and smile are enthusiastic and infectious. She is keenly aware of everyone in the class and how every individual responds to each of her directions. She isn’t afraid to laugh, to interact with any one student, or to pop down to the floor to demonstrate.
She gives directions in a strong, musical voice, and uses clear and descriptive language without the dreamy tones one sometimes finds in yoga studios. She is extremely intelligent, well-spoken, and 100% authentic.
Because of my unique post-surgical issues, I decided to also schedule some one-to-one Functional Integration sessions with Mara. As I rest on her table, she gently maneuvers my limbs, torso, and head in ways that open the “stuck” places. The process is slow and soft, and I have come to trust her completely.
I look forward to more classes and sessions with Mara Neimanis. We are very lucky in WNY that she has chosen to share her gifts with us.
For nearly three months while living in Key West, I've enjoyed the benefit of practicing Feldenkrais techniques in a once-a-week class along with twice-weekly fitness training workouts at a private gym. Even better, I'm lucky enough to be doing both Feldenkrais and fitness training with the same individual, Mara Neimanis.
Combining the two techniques is a first for me and it has been working well. I've been able to progress through the "stress" side of training -- the fitness routines -- adding more weight and reps, while at the same time learning the slow and easy ways of the Feldenkrais method of body movement, which truly involves no stress.
Through fitness training I have built strength and flexibility, and I also have a new and growing awareness --through Feldenkrais-- regarding how the two disciplines actually do go together, with Feldenkrais techniques acting as a sort of organizing catalyst as well as a healing one.
It is with great pleasure that I highly recommended Mara Neimanis to you. I was fortunate to hear about the Feldenkrais Method from my yoga instructor. I was suffering with severe shoulder pain and signed up for the Awareness through Movement class. I got immediate pain relief after the very first class.
I was so impressed with the results I wanted to learn more and I scheduled an appointment for a Functional Integration session. This private session helped me eliminate my shoulder pain which was really caused from my neck. Mara was able to teach me movements that I needed to get fast pain relief. I look forward to attending her weekly class because I learn more about my muscles and joints and how to live a pain-free life.
Never before have I had so many drastic improvements, with such mild therapy in such a short period of time! Mara and Feldenkrais are truly amazing! I cannot say enough good things about them both!
I have had so many improvements in my neck, shoulders, back, hips etc. I walk so much taller and straighter, I don’t scuff my feet on the floor when I walk anymore, I have lost weight without trying ( something that I have struggled with my whole life!), I am able to kneel, bend and turn in directions that I haven’t in almost 20 years! I feel better than ever and am so happy to be working with Mara!
I was diagnosed with three bulged discs in my lumbar region earlier in 2019, and efforts to rehab using a top rated PT clinic in Buffalo only made things worse.
They say the universe conspires to provide what you need and Mara came along just the right time. With her compassionate and caring ways along with very easy , gentle therapy; these treatments had my back starting to release within a couple of sessions. Desperation has turned to excitement as I look forward improved health and wellness. Neuroplasticity for the body. Highly recommended for anyone looking to take care of their body for the long run.
